Counselling

Marieke graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor Science in Human Nutritional Sciences. During university, she developed an interest in sport nutrition, and completed the Intensive Sport Nutrition Course through Dietitians of Canada in 2011. Marieke became a Registered Dietitian after completing a Dietetic Internship with Manitoba Partnership Dietetic Education Program in 2011. She is also an active member of the Manitoba Sport Nutrition Network.

Marieke has worked with a wide variety of clients from recreational to provincial level athletes as well as those looking to get back to exercise and healthy eating for the first time in years.

Marieke formerly provided nutrition programming for students in Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School program. She also has over twelve years of clinical nutrition experience in rehab, medicine, surgery and critical care, with knowledge of various chronic diseases and gastrointestinal disorders.

Marieke’s approach to nutrition counselling is far from being the “food police”. She believes eating should be enjoyable and focuses on eating whole foods rather than counting calories. She also loves wading through the hype of fad diets and using evidenced-based strategies for improving wellness.

Aynsley comes from a very active family and has participated in sports all her life. After numerous trips to the physiotherapist for various injuries, she realized her deep interest in the field of physiotherapy. She graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Medical Rehabilitation (PT) degree in 2008 and has worked in private practice treating a wide range of orthopaedic conditions since. She is passionate about physiotherapy and loves helping people return to their pre-injury condition, or better! “I can relate to the setbacks an injury can cause. It is extremely rewarding to help clients return to training and reach their goals.”

Aynsley is very dedicated to the profession of physiotherapy. She is committed to continuing her education through advanced exercise, manual therapy, and acupuncture courses, as well as mentoring students who are beginning their careers. She is enthusiastic, personable and loves the problem-solving component of her job. Jayme completed her Bachelor of Science from University of Winnipeg in Athletic Therapy, completing her certification in 2010. She then went on to complete her Massage Therapy at the Massage Therapy College of Manitoba.

Growing up, Jayme was always involved in sports. She has worked and volunteered with St. Paul’s High School football, hockey, soccer, and basketball, as well as with provincial football and lacrosse, and professional musicians. She has also volunteered with the Winnipeg Jets and recently finished working with Cirque du Soleil. Jayme previously worked with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers as a student in Athletic Therapy, and then as a Massage Therapist following her graduation.

Curtis graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2014 and then went on to complete his Master of Physical Therapy in 2016. Since graduating he has gone on to take extensive post graduate training in areas of manual therapy and advanced exercise prescription which has profoundly shaped his clinical practice.

Curtis has always been involved in sport and activity; and enjoys looking for new challenges. He began lifting weights consistently in middle school and has had a love for weight training since then. Alongside his university studies he set out to practice Taekwondo, achieving the rank of first degree blackbelt. His passion for activity was a major influence in his path to becoming a physiotherapist, as well as a love of learning, and a strong desire to help others.

Curtis believes strongly in developing an individualized plan centered around goals that are meaningful to his patients. He is passionate about educating his patients so that they have a good understanding and clear direction in their rehabilitation plan. He regards exercise as one of the most powerful ways in which he can influence his patient’s health and, with a primarily active approach, works hard to help others achieve their goals, promote independence, and foster resilience.

Curtis’ love for education extends well beyond his direct clinical involvement. From 2015-2020 he served as a board member of the MB- Section of Sport Physiotherapy Canada where his primary role as the education chair was to bring in high quality continuing education courses and speakers to therapists in the community. He has also served as a clinical supervisor and mentor for several physiotherapy students and physiotherapy exam candidates.

Curtis has a wealth of clinical experience working in multidisciplinary environments and places a high value on interprofessional collaboration to ensure patients receive the highest level of care possible.

Felicia didn’t always know she wanted to be an RMT but always knew she was meant to help people. After high school, she attended the University of Manitoba where she achieved a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. She worked in the mental health sector, helping people living with addictions, developmental delays, and people who have experienced homelessness. While she found this rewarding, Felicia felt like she needed to help people in a more physical way.

Felicia began working alongside other massage therapists as a receptionist and soon fell in love with the profession. She received treatments and noticed huge improvements in her activities and daily living. The massage therapists she met were so passionate about their role in health care that Felicia felt inspired to pursue Massage Therapy as well. Felicia completed her studies at Wellington College for Remedial Massage Therapies in June of 2020. She is passionate about the work she does and feels honoured to contribute to the health of others. Felicia strongly believes in an integrated approach in achieving any health related goal. She respects and appreciates the work of her colleagues and will always make sure her clients are receiving the best care possible.

Along with massage, Felicia loves being active. Activities she enjoys include ringette, olympic weightlifting, soccer, boxing, and hiking.

Diane graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2007 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy. She spent the first 14 years of her career in acute care at the Health Sciences Centre specifically in neurosurgery, trauma and surgical/medical intensive care. Her experience in acute care has allowed her to build strong clinical reasoning and the ability to effectively collaborate with all health care practitioners.

In 2021 she completed the competency-based vestibular training to focus her practice on vestibular rehabilitation. Her acute care background allows for a very thorough assessment and understanding of each patient. Timely and thorough vestibular care is very difficult to find in Winnipeg and Diane is excited to provide this service to patients as she believes they should not have to suffer from vertigo and dizziness alone. As a former gymnast, Diane’s passion for physical activity and health is still a huge part of her life. Most weekends are spent at the lake, biking, swimming and hiking with her husband Blake and two children: Danica and Nolin.

Joe has been involved in personal training for six years. He became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2011 and graduated with a kinesiology degree from the U of M and CSEP certification in 2012. He continues to take CEU’s to maintain his CSEP and CSCS credentials.

Joe grew up playing hockey, soccer, badminton and golf. In the gym he enjoys an array of activities such as Olympic lifting, sprints, resistance training as well as cycling. During the summer months he enjoys golfing, paint-balling, the occasional bike ride and swimming. During the winter he enjoys badminton, downhill skiing and occasionally hot yoga.

In the gym, Joe’s clients can expect a large repertoire of exercises and drills, as well as a knowledge of the mechanics of each individual exercise. Clients will learn proper lifting and exercise technique, and benefit from Joe’s knowledge of anatomy and muscles movement. They can also expect to learn about nutrition and proper eating habits. Joe is determined and motivated to have his clients reach their goals and is constantly seeking new knowledge in order to get them there.

She then continued her education by completing her Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CSEP-CEP) and High Performance Specialist (CSEP-HPS) certifications in 2016, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) certification in 2017, and her Pre/Post Natal Specialist (CSEP-PPN) certification in 2022.

Since a very early age, Amy took an interest in strength training to progress her own athletic performance and physical goals. She has always been involved in and enjoys team sports and strongly believes in being a team player on and off the field. Respect in sport and gym environments are of high priority to her. She will always treat clients with the highest regard and expects the same from all other individuals. Amy also enjoys spending any free time she has doing outdoor activities like hiking, canoeing, and backcountry camping, and truly believes in the importance of connecting with and spending time in nature.

Amy takes it upon herself to go above and beyond to connect with her clients and gain their trust. This includes learning more about them than just their physical activity backgrounds. For the last decade Daryl has helped engineer some of the world’s most awe-inspiring sport performances – right here in Winnipeg. Daryl was previously the Director of Sport Science at an Olympic/ Paralympic training centre for 10 years where he with a multidisciplinary team to deliver integrated services to gifted athletes. Daryl is trained as a sports and exercise scientist, a physiologist and strength coach.

Daryl’s curious disposition, attention to detail, and innovative ideas have made him a highly sought resource for high-performance individuals and organizations. Daryl has travelled as a performance staff member for Triathlon Canada, Soccer Canada, Volleyball Canada, and Wheelchair Basketball Canada to name a few. He has consulted for the Winnipeg Jets, and many National sports organizations resulting in work that led to Olympic performances in Road Cycling, Triathlon, Paratriathlon, Swimming, Rowing, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Archery, and Curling.

Daryl is now pleased to bring his vast knowledge and incredible passion to the public, where he helps his local community members accomplish their goals and live their dreams through coaching and presentations on Health, Wellness and Performance.

Daryl currently sits on the board for the National Strength and Conditioning Association of Manitoba (2014-present). He has served on the National Sport Science Sport Medicine Advisory Council (2007-2016), and was appointed an Instructor 1 position for the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Manitoba (2008-2012) to lead the Exercise Physiology rounds for the Primary Care Sport Medicine Fellowship at Pan Am Clinic.

Evan graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Kinesiology in 2019. He became a certified personal trainer through the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP-CPT) while still in school, where he also gained experience working at the university gym (Active Living Center).

Evan grew up with a love of the outdoors, and spent much of his free time biking, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, camping, and skiing. More recently he has discovered a love of running and you can often find him running in a number of local run clubs, as well as competing in races from 5K’s to ultra-marathons.

He is a strong believer in exercise as preventative medicine, and thinks strength training plays an important role in living a healthy life, allowing for both physical longevity as well as excelling in any physical performance.

Tamara completed her Bachelor of Kinesiology, majoring in Human Kinetics, at the University of Regina in 2020, and went on to complete a Masters of Physical Therapy at the University of Manitoba in 2022.

Growing up, Tamara played a variety of sports but fell in love with the competitive nature of hockey and softball. She played Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) hockey for 5 years with the University of Regina Cougars and played multiple times for Team Manitoba in softball. With these experiences, Tamara understands the importance of physical and mental preparation for optimal performance.

As a physiotherapist, she has found a keen interest in active-based exercise rehabilitation. She integrates these concepts to individualize home exercise plans to help her clients return to, or surpass their previous level of function and performance.

Shanley grew up in rural Manitoba and eventually moved to Winnipeg for her university education. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology from the University of Manitoba in 2015 and graduated with a Masters in Physical Therapy in 2017.

Shanley holds a lot of value in continuing her education and has completed post-graduate courses such as taping and bracing, Orthopedic Level 1 and Acupuncture. Shanley achieved her certification in Women’s Health and Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy in January 2019. She is passionate about this area of health and wellness and wants to provide access for all individuals experiencing pelvic health concerns. She has continued to take various courses within this area of physical therapy and is now treating men, women, and transgender patients, from pediatrics to older individuals.

She believes in a holistic approach to rehabilitation and tries to integrate the knowledge she has gained from various courses and experiences into client-centered care. Renée graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutritional Sciences in 2008. She then completed a Dietetic Internship through the Manitoba Partnership Dietetic Education Program and received her Registered Dietitian (RD) designation in 2009. She has been practicing as a dietitian since then, in both a clinical setting as well as in private practice. In 2011 she completed the Intensive Sport Nutrition Course through Dietitians of Canada and has sat on the Manitoba Sport Nutrition Network for several years. Renée is able to provide nutrition services in both English and French.

Blake graduated from Wellington College of Remedial Massage Therapies in 2016. Blake’s love for the body and movement originally came from her love of dance, however, her love for massage therapy began two weeks into massage therapy while learning medical terminology. Blake sees everyone as a puzzle and feels a small victory finding each puzzle piece. Using a variety of massage techniques, each treatment plan is designed based on the client’s specific wants and needs and is always changing depending on what is needed during each visit. Blake loves to treat problems and find the source, but also believes in the benefits of relaxation massage when it is therapeutically necessary.
